The film Vonarstræti (English title: Life in a Fishbowl) by Icelandic director Baldvin Z has been picked up for international distribution by the German company Films Boutique. The company has in the past distributed award-winning films by acclaimed directors such as Polish Andrzev Wajda and Russian Alexander Sokurov, it says in a press release from Icelandic distributor Sena.
Vonarstræti chronicles the lives of three radically different people, single mother Eik, rising-star financier Sölvi and, alcoholic writer Móri, in the years just before the 2008 financial collapse. The film has enjoyed much success in Iceland where despite a May release date it is already the highest grossing film of 2014 with 44,000 people having seen it in Iceland, or over 13 percent of the total population.
The film is currently screening with English subtitles at Haskólabíó cinema in Reykjavík.
