According to divisional manager at the agency, Birna Guttormsdóttir, volunteers perform a variety of important tasks such as maintenance of roads and walking trails, ruv.is reports.

Birna says the work is carried out by both volunteers and specialists.

Icelanders are also among the volunteers, but have been slower to join the project, according to ruv.is.
