Volcano Museum Receives Icelandic Design Award

Eldheimar, a volcano museum in Vestmannaeyjar (Westman Islands) received the Icelandic Design Award yesterday, RÚV reports. The selection committee described the exhibit as an example of inventive and well implemented ways to reach out to visitors in a visual and interactive way.

The committee received 100 nominations with five selected as finalists.

In the committee’s opinion, Eldheimar relates a unique event in the natural history of Iceland in an outstanding way.

The Eldheimar exhibit is the work of designer Axel Hallkell Jóhannesson, the interactive media company Gagarin, architect Margrét Kristín Gunnarsdóttir and landscape architect Lilja Kristín Ólafsdóttir.

The prosthetic company Össur received an award for best investment in design.
