Volcanic Ash Closes Airports in Iceland Again

By Iceland Review

All flights with domestic airline Air Iceland have been postponed until the afternoon because of the ash from the volcanic eruption in Eyjafjallajökull. It looks as if the same will apply to flights to and from Keflavík International Airport.

Both Icelandair and Iceland Express moved their morning flights forward.

Both Icelandair and Iceland Express reacted to the ash distribution forecast last night by moving their morning flights forward. Four airplanes took off from Keflavík at 4 am and two at 6 am, visir.is reports.

It is currently unclear whether airplanes scheduled to land at Keflavík later today will have to be redirected to Akureyri in north Iceland.

Air Iceland will reassess the situation this afternoon. Domestic airline Eagle Air has also postponed its morning flights to Saudárkrókur, Höfn and Bíldudalur but, like Air Iceland, will reassess the situation in the afternoon.

Ash distribution forecasts can be followed on www.vedur.is.
