VIEWPOINT 09

Last night the sky in South Iceland was glowing. I have never seen such strong northern lights by Lake Þingvallavatn, just east of the capital. And I was not alone. It seemed as if half of Reykjavík had taken a late Sunday drive to see the spectacle.

In the image you see, taken at 22:29:05, was a car driving by the lake at 64°11’17.1″ 21°13’37.5″, looking NE63°, temperature -12°C /10°F and calm, perfect for observing the northern lights.

We will save the best images for you and publish them in the print edition of Iceland Review.
