Video: Skyscrapers Unfit for Icelandic Weather

Information officer of ICE-SAR Ólöf Snæhólm Baldursdóttir said violent and dangerous gusts of wind are created around tall buildings in the capital region during stormy weather. The situation was particularly risky at Höfðatorg in Reykjavík on Friday.

As this video on shows, pedestrians encountered considerabe difficulties in walking past the glass tower on Höfðatorg. A number of people had to seek medical attention at the ER after being blown off their feet during Friday’s storm.

Ólöf stated this is something that must be discussed in the immediate future and possibly Icelandic weather conditions must be taken into account when construction licenses are issued for tall buildings.
