Video: Lost Parrot Saved by Forklift

A budgie called Sky was reclaimed by its owners after extensive rescue operations involving a forklift at Hádegismóar in Reykjavík on Wednesday morning. The ten-year-old parrot had gone missing from its home in Seljahverfi in the neighboring town Kópavogur one week earlier.

The parrot was found outside the headquarters of Morgunblaðið newspaper in Hádegismóar early yesterday morning. Staff had noticed the budgerigar after hearing an unusual birdsong and subsequently posted a picture of it in the newspaper’s online version, mbl.is.

Shortly afterwards the owners, Kolbrún Edda Aradóttir and Vilborg Jónsdóttir, came to the scene. After a failed attempt to lure Sky down from the building’s raft with its favorite snack, a forklift from the newspaper’s printery was used to bring Kolbrún closer to the bird.

Sky appeared to be cold and exhausted and relieved to return to its cage. “We are extremely grateful to have reclaimed it,” Vilborg declared.
