The students and staff of Hraunvallaskóli elementary school in Hafnarfjörður set an Icelandic record on Tuesday when more than 1,000 people danced to the song ‘Gangnam Style’ by South Korean pop musician PSY at the same time.

The song and video to the song, which has been watched almost 700 million times on YouTube, have become popular across the globe. Gangnam is the rich district of Seoul and the lyrics are critical of the lifestyles of the people who live there, ruv.is reports.
However, that was probably not at the top of the minds of students dancing their hearts out to ‘Gangnam Style’ on Tuesday, as part of the school’s ‘friends week.’
Meanwhile, a group of people who have had enough of the ‘Gangnam Style’ craze, launched a petition on Facebook asking the makers of the 2012 New Year’s Eve comedy program, Áramótaskaupið, to please not include the song in their screenplay. The group has gotten more than 1,500 likes.
