Video: Iceland Hit by Multiple Earthquakes and Eruptions

In the past 15 years, since 1996, 242,724 earthquakes have been registered in Iceland and seven volcanic eruptions: Gjálp, 1996; Hekla, 2000; Fimmvörðuháls and Eyjafjallajökull in 2010; and Grímsvötn in 1998, 2004, and 2011.

Datamarket made the above four-minute video model showing seismic and volcanic activity in Iceland in the aforementioned period, ruv.is.

The dark colors show earthquakes with epicenters deep underground; the lighter the color, the closer to the surface the earthquakes hit. Volcanic eruptions are shown with a star.
