Video: How Iceland was Transformed for Prometheus

A video released by post-production facility the Moving Picture Company (MPC) reveals how Iceland and Jordan were transformed into the alien world featured in Ridley Scott’s Prometheus.

Scott’s drawings were translated into concept images and then the final product, as the video shows. The production team used the images as a basis to find shooting locations which fit the director’s vision of an uninviting, barren and desolate landscape, the Moving Picture Company states on its website.

The company built a digital representation of the area, working with satellite images, digital elevation files and tech scout photography to reconstruct the valley in Maya.

The snow-covered Hekla volcano was chosen as a shooting location in Iceland. According to MPC, Scott chose the location for its “rocky surface and strange lava pinnacles.”
