The vast majority of people who travel to Iceland, 97 percent, are satisfied with their experience and find that their expectations were met, according to a survey conducted by market research company Rannsóknir og rádgjöf on behalf of the Icelandic Tourist Board last summer.

Most respondents said that Icelandic nature was the reason for their trip with 82 percent having been on a nature sightseeing tour during their stay, reports.

Around 20 percent of respondents also said that the nature and landscapes had been the most memorable aspects of the trip, while a number of people mentioned the Blue Lagoon, the Jökulsárlón glacial lagoon, Gullfoss waterfall and erupting hot spring Geysir specifically.

Nine percent of the travelers questioned stated that they had considered canceling their trip because of the volcanic eruption in Eyjafjallajökull.
