Roughly 6.5 percent of applications for asylum in Iceland have been accepted so far this year. A total of 128 of the 137 applications processed by the end of September were rejected, Morgunblaðið reports.

The number of asylum seekers in Iceland increased by 65 percent in the first nine months of this year compared to the same period in 2012.
Of the 137 applications, 48 were treated as Dublin cases (considered the responsibility of another state under the Dublin Regulation), 80 did not meet the requirements to be considered a refugee, eight were granted refugee status and one person was granted a permit on humanitarian grounds.
