Vasectomies (‘Men’s Cuts’) More Popular than Ever

By Iceland Review

Vasectomies, commonly known as men’s cuts (herraklippingar) in Icelandic, have never been as popular in the country, Vísir reports. In 2005, they exceeded the number of sterilization procedures for women. Men interviewed by Vísir, who have undergone the procedure, report that they don’t want women to carry the responsibility for contraception alone.

In 2005, 280 women and 285 men underwent sterilization procedures. Since then, the number of vasectomies has increased year by year, reaching 463 in 2014, compared with 121 women who had their tubes tied.

The reason for the increased number of vasectomies is that the procedure is safe and inexpensive, and doesn’t affect the sex drive of those who have it done.
