Valur Football Club Double Iceland Champion

The male league of Reykjavík football club Valur became the Icelandic champions for the first time in 20 years on Saturday by beating HK of Kópavogur 1-0. This is the 20th time they have won the championship. Valur’s female league is also Iceland champion.

The winning goal was scored by Atli Sveinn Thórarinsson in the 13th minute, mbl.is reports.

FH from Hafnarfjördur beat Víkingur of Reykjavík 3-1 and thus ensured the second place, while ÍA from Akranes placed third with a 3-3 tie against FC Keflavík.

The Valur female football team defended their title on September 17 when they became Iceland champions for the second year in a row with a 10-0 victory over KA/Thór from Akureyri.
