The Reykjavík clubs Valur and KR earned the Icelandic division cup title in football yesterday, Valur in the women’s division and KR in the men’s division, with victories over Fylkir and Breidablik, respectively.
Valur beat Fylkir, another Reykjavík club, 2-0. Valur was the stronger team throughout the game and the victory was well-earned, although Fylkir also performed well and had two golden opportunities to score. The gap between the “large” and “small” teams in Icelandic women’s football is shrinking, Morgunbladid reports.
In men’s football, KR narrowly beat Breidablik, also from Reykjavík, 2-1. Breidablik played aggressively from the first minute but let down their guard towards the end of the first half which is when KR scored both of their goals.
Breidablik narrowed the gap in the second half and often came close to evening the score, but in the end, KR emerged as the winners.
