Icelandic director and film editor Valdís Óskarsdóttir, who received a BAFTA for her editing in The Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind, has agreed to direct a new Icelandic movie, Kóngavegur 7, as announced this week.
The producers from left to right: Árni Filippusson, Davíd Óskar Ólafsson and Hreinn Beck.
Óskarsdóttir’s debut project as a director was the 2008 feature film Country Wedding (original title: Sveitabrúdkaup). The film was screened all over the world, including at the Toronto International Film Festival where it was well received.
“We are excited about working with Valdís again after successfully cooperating with her on Country Wedding,” one of the producers, Árni Filippusson, said in a Mystery Ísland press release.
“Kóngavegur 7 is supposed to be something between a comedy and a drama and it can, in fact, be described as a highly serious comedy with lightly jazzed thriller elements,” Filippusson added.
Kóngavegur 7 takes place in a trailer park and tells the story of the character Júníor’s return to Iceland after having lived abroad for three years.
Júníor brings home a lot of problems in the hope that his father can solve them, but the homecoming is not exactly what he expected.
Shooting is scheduled to begin next month.
