Icelandic duo VÆB will represent Iceland at Eurovision in May with their song Róa. Their Ash Wednesday-themed costumes, released yesterday, sold out quickly.
Favourites among the public and the jury
VÆB, consisting of brothers Matthías Davíð and Hálfdán Helgi Matthíasson, will represent Iceland at the Eurovision Song Contest in Basel, Switzerland, this May. The duo triumphed at the Television Song Contest last Saturday, securing victory with their song Róa. They topped both the public vote and the jury selection.
In addition to their Eurovision success, it seems that the VÆB brothers will also be highly visible on Ash Wednesday, celebrated next Wednesday in Iceland. (On Ash Wednesday, Icelandic children celebrate by dressing up in costumes and singing for candy.)
“Everyone wants to be VÆB”
As reported by K100, VÆB recently revealed plans to release Ash Wednesday costumes featuring their signature VÆB theme for fans. The costumes, created in collaboration with Henzon, went on sale on the website www.væb.is at around 5 p.m. yesterday.

However, they sold out almost instantly. All costumes and glasses are now out of stock. “They flew off the shelves immediately,” Matthías confirmed in an interview with K100.is today.
Still, there is hope for fans.
The brothers hope to release more costumes for sale today and encourage followers to keep an eye on the site. They note, however, that this will likely be the final batch before Ash Wednesday. “There’s a VÆB craze sweeping the nation, and I’m all for it,” Matthías told K100. “Everyone wants to be VÆB!”
