Operations at the Keflavík Naval Base will remain unchanged, reports the Icelandic National Broadcasting Service, RÚV. According to RÚV, the US Armed Services have delayed the decision regarding whether the US Air Force will take over the operations of the US led Defense Force.
Naval base employees received an email yesterday morning announcing the decision. According to sources from a naval base PR representative the decision to postpone a final decision about the overall command of the base was made since no further cost cuts are immediately necessary.
According to RÚV it is uncertain when the final decision will be taken. According to RÚV the change will not occur in the coming year. For the time being, the operation will remain unchanged.
Iceland’s minister of foreign affairs, Geir Haarde was unable to comment on the matter yesterday.
