The US ministers will sign an agreement on the organization of search and rescue in the Arctic Ocean along with ministers of the other member states, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark (on behalf of Greenland), Canada and Russia, Fréttabladid reports.
This is the first agreement made by the Arctic Council member states which has a legal validation in these states. It is considered an undisputed indication that the importance of the Arctic regions is increasing.
