The increase in the circulation of cash, rather than the use of electronic payments, is considered a sign of black work, Fréttablaðið reports.

Black work has increased most in the tourism industry, according to the president of the Icelandic Confederation of Labor (ASÍ) Gylfi Arnbjörnsson. “… the number of tourists that we are seeing, we see it in flights but not in the industry statistics.”

The Icelandic Confederation of Labor, Directorate of Internal Revenue and the Confederation of Icelandic Employers are working to reverse the trend.
