An Akureyri resident, who police had searched unsuccessfully because of a breaking-and-entering recorded on a CCTV camera, knocked on the door of one of the police officers who had been searching him by coincidence last night.
The police officer called for backup and then chased the suspected thief, which led to his arrest, Fréttabladid reports.
Police found loot from another break-in among the man’s belongings and his accomplice was arrested for driving under the influence of drugs.
It is uncertain why the man knocked on the police officer’s door, but he had possibly been preparing to break into his house. It appears as if he chose the house by sheer coincidence.
