Universal Music Group has made a contract with the Icelandic band Of Monsters and Men on releasing their first album, My Head Is an Animal, outside Iceland. The album’s release is scheduled for early next year.

According to Morgunbladid, the signing of the band to such a major international label is considered a great achievement as although they are a big hit in Iceland, the group is relatively unknown outside the country.
In other Icelandic music news, the reggae band Hjálmar will play at Eurosonic Noorderslag in Groningen, the Netherlands, January 11-14, 2012. Eurosonic is described as not only a music festival but also a platform to promote European pop music.
