It is believed that the smoke came from the air conditioning system. The airplane, a Boeing 777, was flying near Iceland when it was decided to make a landing to be on the safe side. The airport’s staff prepared for an emergency but the landing went smoothly, Morgunbladid reports.

The airplane’s 285 passengers were taken to hotels in the capital region and had to spend one night in Iceland while the airplane was repaired.

Although the airplane had already been repaired on Saturday evening, the crew had to rest according to regulations and so it didn’t take off from Keflavík until yesterday afternoon.
