Unique Video of Iceland Volcanic Eruption

Former RÚV reporter Ómar Ragnarsson flew over the three volcanic craters on Eyjafjallajökull glacier around 5 pm today and caught unique footage of the eruption. The video shows lava explosions in the largest crater and the shock waves that follow.

Ragnarsson told ruv.is that the volcanic activity has definitely decreased. The cloud of ash and volcanic debris now reaches a height of 15,000 to 16,000 feet.

The jets created by the explosions are approximately 500 meter high and 1,000 meter wide. Ragnarsson couldn’t spot any lava spurting out of the smaller craters.
