Unemployment in Iceland Five Percent

The unemployment rate in Iceland stands at five percent for the third quarter of this year, according to the latest information from Statistics Iceland.

The unemployment rate is down from 5.9 percent in Q3 2011.

The number of persons in the labor force in Iceland in Q3 is 181,900, thereof 172,700 employed and 9,200 unemployed. The unemployment rate was higher in the capital region, 5.5 percent, compared to 4.1 percent in other regions.

The number of people who had been unemployed for 12 months or longer increased by 200 to 3,300 in Q3 2012, or 1.8 percent of the labor force.
