Unemployment in Iceland 5.8 Percent

Unemployed in Iceland in January 2013 was 5.8 percent, or 10,500 persons, down by 0.9 percentage points from January 2012 when it was 6.7 percent.

In January 2013, the unemployment rate among men was 6.4 percent, down from 6.6 percent a year ago. The rate for women stood at 5.3 percent, down from 6.9 percent in January 2012.

Unemployment has decreased by 14.9 percent for the last 12 months and the rate by 1 point, Statistics Iceland reports.

The unemployment rate in the Eurozone is currently around 12 percent, with Spain and Greece topping the list with more than a quarter of the population unemployed.

Youth unemployment in these countries is close to 60 percent, as reported on guardian.co.uk.
