UN Women’s Candlelight Walk Tonight

UN Women’s annual candlelight walk will be held in Reykjavík tonight. November 25 is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.

The annual 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, so-called Orange the World Days, begins today. The campaign unites people in a fight to end violence against women and girls around the world. Its runs through December 10, Human Rights Day.

UN Women in Iceland organizes the campaign in Iceland, along with other organizations. The slogan of the candlelight walk is, “Hear the voices of all women.”

Freyja Haraldsdóttir, spokesperson for Tabú, a feminist organization, will lead the walk and address participants. The walk begins at 7:00 pm by Arnarhóll, downtown Reykjavík.

The color orange is symbolic for hope and a bright future for women and girls without violence. Harpa Concert Hall will be lit orange tonight.
