Two Tourists Die After Last Week’s Accidents

One of the two tourists injured in a traffic accident in West Iceland on Thursday, passed away Friday. He was a Chinese citizen. The other tourist, a Chinese woman, remains unconscious on a ventilator at Landspítalinn Unversity Hospital in critical condition. Four other passengers suffered only minor injuries.

Another tourist, who Monday last week was thrown off his motorcycle after he lost control of it while driving on a gravel road in Borgarfjörður, West Iceland, has also died. The man, who was an Indian citizen based in Switzerland, had been kept on a ventilator in critical condition since the accident. His wife, who was a passenger on the motorcycle, suffered minor injuries, RÚV reports.

The intensive care unit of Landspítali has been under immense strain recently, due to the ongoing nurses’ strike. Exemptions are nonetheless granted in cases of emergency and unions are said to have cooperated fully in the aftermath of the accidents.
