Two Teenagers Die in Traffic Accident

Two 18-year-old girls died in the intensive care unit of the Landspítali hospital in Reykjavík yesterday after being in a traffic accident in Keflavík, southwest Iceland, on Saturday morning.

The condition of the third passenger, a 17-year-old girl, is critical and she is being kept unconscious on a ventilator, Morgunbladid reports.

The teenage boy who was driving didn’t suffer any serious injuries and was released from the Sudurnes Healthcare Center yesterday.

Prayer sessions were held in the Útskálakirkja church in Gardur, where the girls are from, on Saturday and Sunday, after which attendees could seek consolation from the employees of the church. Around 100 people came to the church to pray for the girls on Saturday.

According to Fréttabladid, the teenagers were in a jeep which hit a lamppost and flipped over at Mánatorg by Keflavík around 6:30 on Saturday morning.

The accident is under investigation by the Sudurnes Police. The police are looking for witnesses. They especially want to speak with the person who was at the scene of the accident and let someone use his or her cell phone to call the police.
