Two new fissures have appeared midway between the eruption in Holuhraun and the edge of Dyngjujökull, according to RÚV’s reporter Lára Ómarsdóttir, who is currently flying over the eruption site.
Lava appears to be flowing from the new fissures.
Scientists haven’t yet arrived on the scene and cannot as yet confirm the existence of the new fissures.
A magnitude 5.2 earthquake hit the area during the night.
Since midnight, the total number of automatically located earthquakes is around 100.
Web camera views of the eruption site during the night showed volcanic activity at similar levels to yesterday, as stated on the website of the Icelandic Met Office.
