Last night, two helicopters landed inside the restricted area around the Litli-Hrútur eruption on Reykjanes, report Reykjanes police.
This wasn’t the only example of irresponsible behaviour around the eruption, with authorities also reporting that a foreign tourist narrowly escaped an accident while paragliding near the eruption site yesterday.
In a press release, Reykjanes Police stated that “it is unfortunate that some behave this way.”
The authorities also stated that it is not justifiable to keep hiking trails open around the clock. For safety reasons, hiking trails from Suðurstrandarvegur are still closed daily at 6 p.m. or earlier or later depending on the conditions.
