Two Given Ten Years for Drug Smuggling

court_gavel_familycourtservicesIcelanders Heimir Sigurðsson and Sturla Þórhallsson were this morning sentenced by the Copenhagen District Court to ten years each for extensive drug smuggling, reports.

The case inolves the smuggling of 70 kilograms of amphetamines from the Netherlands to Denmark.

Guðmundur Ingi Þóroddsson, considered to be the ringleader in the case, was sentenced to 12 years in prison in June. Guðmundur confessed to his role in the smuggling operation. Three other Icelanders are awaiting trial.

According to Karl Steinar Valsson, head of the narcotics division of the Icelandic police, the case is one of the largest the Icelandic police has worked on.
