Two Fatal Accidents

A young man was killed on Ring Road 1, by Geitháls, (close to Rauðhólar), on Saturday, when the passenger car he was driving collided with a parked truck, reports. No one was in the truck. The accident happened close to 5:00 pm. Fire ignited in the car upon impact, and a tank truck was sent from the Greater Reykjavík Fire Department to extinguish the fire, along with an ambulance and police. No other information is available from police.

A foreign tourist died early yesterday afternoon by Svínafellsjökull glacier (in Vatnajökull glacier) Southeast Iceland, as he fell off cliffs on the west side of the glacier, RÚV reports. The man was part of a group traveling the country. Following the accident, the group was given crisis counseling. The accident is under investigation by police.
