Two-Day Rendezvous with Politicians Begins

The second annual Fundur fólksins (‘The People’s Meeting’) begins in the Nordic House in Reykjavík today and continues through September 3. This is an opportunity for members of the general public to meet with officials and leaders of interest associations.

The two-day meeting is described on as a “festival, a platform to activate democracy and bridge the gap between politicians and the people in the country.”

A camp has been put up outside the Nordic House where representatives of various associations, political parties, institutions and companies take part in podium discussions.

Today, starting at 11 am, President of Iceland Guðni Th. Jóhannesson, Minister of Social Affairs and Housing Eygló Harðardóttir and Mayor of Reykjavík Dagur B. Eggertsson will take part in discussions.

Among those who will give an address during the meeting are representatives of the Iceland Construction Authority, the University of Iceland Center for Ethics, the Media Commission, Voice of Nature, the Data Protection Authority and all political parties.

In between discussions, artists of different genres will perform.
