Twelve Decorated with Knight’s Cross

President of Iceland Guðni Th. Jóhannesson decorated 12 Icelanders with the Knight’s Cross yesterday, RÚV reports. The individuals received the distinction for their contributions to areas such as culture, education, journalism, sports, and welfare. A list of those awarded and their contributions follows.

Former assistant director of energy company Hitaveita Suðurnesja Albert Albertsson for his contribution in the field of geothermal utilization.

Writer and former professor Álfrún Gunnlaugsdóttir for contributions to Icelandic literature and the teaching of literature at the university level.

Actress Brynhildur Guðjónsdóttir for her contributions to Icelandic theatre.

Photographer Gunnar V. Andrésson for his work in Icelandic media.

Sports specialist Halldóra Björnsdóttir for her contribution to public health.

Former school principal Haukur Ágústsson for his contribution to education-related issues and distance teaching.

President of the National Olympic and Sport Association of Iceland Lárus Blöndal for his work in support of athletic activities.

Former consultant Ólafur Dýrmundsson for work in the field of Icelandic agriculture.

Visual artist Ólöf Nordal for her contributions to Icelandic art.

Master carpenter Sigfús Kristinsson for his contributions to industry and industrial education in Selfoss, his local area.

Director of Kvennaathvarf Women’s Shelter Sigþrúdur Guðmundsdóttir, for her work in women’s welfare and safety.

Social worker Vilborg Oddsdóttir, for her contribution to co-operation and combating poverty.
