Truckers Organize Fuel Protests Tomorrow

Spokesperson for truck drivers in Iceland Sturla Jónsson said they are organizing protests against high fuel prices outside Smáralind shopping mall in the Reykjavík suburb of Kópavogur tomorrow at 5 pm.

Jónsson, who has organized series of protests during the course of the last few weeks, (some which have led to confrontations with police), encourages members of the public to join the truckers’ demonstration, Fréttabladid reports.

Truck drivers decided not to protest yesterday because of Labor Day demonstrations. “I did not think it was right to protest on May 1, Jónsson said. “The day has in fact become a holiday for the family […] and it isn’t suitable to have serious demonstrations while parents are enjoying the day off with their children downtown.”
