The Identification Committee of the National Commissioner of the Icelandic Police is working on the identification of a body swept up on the beach at Kaldbaksvík in Strandir, the eastern West Fjords, on Saturday. The body was found by travelers in the area.
Bjarni Bogason, who chairs the committee, told Fréttablaðið that a preliminary investigation is about to be launched.
There is no clue as to who the deceased may be or how long the body has been in Kaldbaksvík, which is not inhabited year-round. The remains consist of a skeleton so analysis of bones and teeth must be used for the identification.
