Icelandic travel companies The Traveling Viking and Iceland Travel, and U.K.-based Discover the World have begun offering Game of Thrones-themed tours of Iceland.
The television series has twice been filmed in various locations around Iceland including Vatnajökull, Snæfellsjökull and Mývatn. Whereas the series was filmed during winter on those two occasions, the production crew is scheduled to return to Iceland later this month to shoot for the upcoming series.
Rósa Stefánsdóttir at Iceland Travel told visir.is that the tours offered by her company are only during the winter, when the series were filmed, allowing visitors to experience the area as it is shown in the series.
“We also want Iceland to become a tourist destination year round welcome tourists during the winter. Naturally, you can’t properly experience the Game of Thrones feeling during other seasons in Iceland,” Rósa said.
