Trash Displayed as Art in New Exhibition

The exhibition “Uplift” opened in the i8 Gallery on Klapparstígur 33 in downtown Reykjavík on Thursday, displaying the most recent work of Icelandic visual artist Hrafnkell Sigurdsson, photographs of heaps of garbage.

Sigurdsson’s work examines the transitory elements in man’s relationship with nature and plays with ideas of reversal and ritual, as described on the artist’s website.

His photographic series include images of empty tents in the snow, houses under construction, garbage bags in the streets, and most recently, portraits of trash.

The exhibition runs through February 22.
