Traffic Accidents up, Crime down in Iceland

Traffic accidents in Reykjavík have increased by 11 percent from last year, according to a recent police report. Crime, on the other hand, has decreased significantly.

So far this year, a total of 233 traffic accidents, 2,618 cases of theft, 547 break-ins, 746 cases of damage to property and 428 cases of violence have occurred, reports.

While the number of traffic accidents has risen, theft has decreased by 9 percent, break-ins by 18 percent, damage to property by 13 percent and cases of violence by 3 percent with cases of violence in downtown Reykjavík dropping from 27 in July 2012 to 15 in July this year.
