Town’s Heating Facilities Dug Out after Avalanche

Staff of Iceland State Electricity worked to clear two geothermal pump houses in Skútudalur in Siglufjörður, North Iceland, yesterday after a large avalanche fell and covered the buildings last week.

From the news report on RÚV.

Only minor damage occurred to the buildings as they are specially built to withstand avalanches, reports.

It is common for avalanches to fall in the area but this avalanche was larger than usual. The buildings were covered in more than four meters of snow.
