Tourists Trapped on Foggy Mountain Rescued

Search and rescue team members were called out on Monday night to assist two tourists, a Swedish woman and a French man, in finding their way down from Mt. Eyrarfjall by Ísafjördur in the West Fjords. Conditions were foggy.

The tourists had decided to go on an evening hike in Mt. Eyrarfjall. Around midnight a dense fog emerged so they were unable to walk back down the mountain safely and contacted the police, Fréttabladid reports.

Police officers and emergency team members went looking for the trapped tourists and located them around 2 am. About an hour later the hikers were down to ground level again, tired, but otherwise in good condition.
