Tourists Trapped at High Tide in Southwest Iceland

Three tourists became trapped where they had camped on a grassy field by the shore at Tungubakkar in Leirvogstunga in Mosfellsbær, a neighboring community of Reykjavík, on Sunday morning. When they woke up at high tide at 7 am, their tent was surrounded by water.

There is currently spring tide and the water level reached its maximum height at around 9 am. The tourists had to stay in the same spot until about 11 am, when they were able to drive on, ruv.is reports.

The tourists were not in any danger and seemed to be in good spirits, because they waved to the cameraman, as can be seen in this footage. The threesome is traveling the Ring Road.
