Thousands of tourists have pledged to behave responsibly on their travels in Iceland since a campaign run by tourism promotion site Inspired by Iceland kicked off on Friday, reports RÚV . As of this morning, nearly 7,000 people had taken the pledge.
The Icelandic Pledge is designed to promote responsible tourism. The campaign encourages people to pledge to not risking life and limb in the pursuit of a good photo and not answering the call of nature on nature, among other things. In recent years as tourist numbers have grown, there have been a considerable number of reports about tourists inadvertently putting themselves in danger in Iceland, whether in traffic or even while admiring nature. Minister of Tourism Þórdís Kolbrún Reykfjörð Gylfadóttir is therefore confident that the campaign will give tourists pause for thought.
The Minister launched the campaign, which can be found on the Inspired by Iceland website, in conjunction with the Icelandic Travel Industry Association, Promote Iceland and the Icelandic Association for Search and Rescue last Friday.
After taking the pledge, you can then register your details and have the chance of winning an all-inclusive trip to Iceland.
