Only once before has a larger halibut been caught by this method in Icelandic waters, Fréttabladid reports.
It took Marteinsen one and a half hours to get the halibut into the boat, Bobby 12, which is operated by the sea angling tour agent Hvíldarklettur (Fisherman).
Hvíldarklettur operates 22 boats for sea angling from Sudureyri and Flateyri in the West Fjords.
