Tourist in Car Accident Discharged from ICU

The woman who was seriously injured in a car accident at Hellissandur, West Iceland, on May 28 has been discharged from the intensive care unit of Landspítali National University Hospital, where she was being kept unconscious on a ventilator.

The woman, a Chinese citizen traveling in Iceland, regained consciousness last week, Vísir reports.

She was one of six traveling in an SUV that overturned. Three of them suffered minor injuries but the other three were taken by helicopter to Landspítali.

Two were taken to the ICU and kept unconscious on a ventilator: the woman and a Chinese man in his thirties. He died the following day.

The woman’s condition remains serious and it will take a long time for her to recover. Ruv.is reports that she suffered severe injuries to her spine. She might complete her treatment in China.
