Top Gun for Wow Air

The ad features former seaman and musician Gylfi Ægisson playing the piano and “hair-doctor” Jón Atli, the other half of local band Human Woman, on guitar.

The Top Gun theme song, an instrumental rock song produced and written by Harold Faltermeyer and performed by Steve Stevens in the 1986 film, is performed by Gylfi playing the piano in a darkened airplane shelter, and Jón Atli dressed in a purple neon suit.

An impressive crew of four attractive flight attendants, all elegantly arrayed in purple uniforms almost as glamorous as the legendary Pan Am stewardesses, with the captain—handsome as ever—in their midst, confidently stride down the invisible runway to the new airbus waiting for them.

The ad concludes with a brief glimpse of a female pilot, missing from the cool crew of five, looking out into the blinding light of day through the opening exit, and the handsome young captain smiling as he drives the plane into the world.

The video was directed by Hannes Halldórsson, a soccer player for KR (“Reykjavík’s Soccer Club”) from the Vesturbær area of Reykjavík, DV reports.
