Tom Cruise Set to Shoot Alien Movie in Iceland

Iceland will most likely serve as set for Universal’s ISK 12 billion (USD 103 million, EUR 76 million) Hollywood production starring Tom Cruise next summer. It is expected that a crew of 200 people will accompany him to Iceland.

Based on the novel Oblivion, the movie features a soldier sent to earth to destroy evil alien creatures. In the movie, the desolate landscapes in Iceland will represent earth in the future after it has become uninhabitable, visir.is reports.

Cruise has reportedly signed a contract on playing the soldier who surprisingly encounters a beautiful woman during his mission and has to evaluate whether she is a real person or an alien in disguise.

The female lead is undecided but three actresses are said to be shortlisted: Kate Beckinsale, Hayley Atwell and Diane Kruger. The movie will be directed by Joseph Kosinski, whose last project was Tron Legacy.

Kosinski traveled around Iceland last summer in search of suitable locations along with employees of Icelandic production company True North, which will be responsible for the shooting in Iceland.

It is estimated that filming will take place in the first part of next summer, mainly in the highlands.
