Tiger Lillies to Play in Iceland?

London-based three-piece band Tiger Lillies is rumored to participate in this year’s Reykjavík Arts Festival in May with a concert at The Icelandic Opera. However, the rumor has not been confirmed by the festival’s organizers.

“We will soon announce all the stellar lineup we have planned for the festival this spring,” Gudrún Kristjánsdóttir, the head of publicity for the Reykjavík Arts Festival, told Fréttabladid.

Tiger Lillies have a solid fan base in Iceland, which includes film editor and director Valdís Óskarsdóttir, describing the band as unique.

“Their songs can become almost brutal; they are at least clear cut—they go straight to the point. They are sarcastic, incredibly funny. They have the kind of nasty humor that I like,” Óskarsdóttir said.

The editor/director fell for the band after watching them perform in Hamburg a decade ago and when she directed her first movie, Country Wedding (2008), she asked them to write music for it.

“I met them in a studio in London, showed them clips and they wrote the music to scenes then and there. They’re geniuses,” Óskarsdóttir commented.
