Tickets to the Iceland vs. Croatia World Cup 2014 playoff in Reykjavík on November 15 bought in an unusually high number by the same individual have been made void after some people were found to have put them up for resale on the internet, visir.is reports.

The Football Association of Iceland (KSÍ) received harsh criticism today after the tickets were put on sale at 4 am this morning. As reported, the tickets sold out by around 7:30 am, meaning that many people who had assumed that they would go on sale later in the day missed out.
In a statement, the managing director of KSÍ, Þórir Hákonarson, apologized for the tickets being put on sale so early, reasoning that it had been done to ensure that the booking system would not get overloaded with everyone trying to buy tickets at the same time, mbl.is reports.
Þórir, however, pointed out that it was always known that there would be far greater demand for tickets than there is capacity at the stadium. He urged Icelanders to nonetheless rally behind their team and watch the game on national broadcaster RÚV.
